Giving Hope and Home to Teens, Joe Toles Adopts a Different Strategy
Considering the number of children that have no parents, and no real home, adoption makes perfect sense. But, what is the perfect age child that you should adopt?
“Most people want babies, they’re looking for warm and cuddly,” explains Joe Toles.
For many, it fills that gaping hole in their life; they prefer adopting a baby so they can raise the child just as it was their own. It’s a beautiful experience for couples, and it only makes sense that you start when the child is a baby, right?
Joe Toles does things just a bit different. The sixty year old bachelor is focused on adopting kids that are more challenged to find a home. He’s adopted six children over the past ten years, and he has just added a seventh.
Adopting an older child gives hope to somebody who probably doesn’t have much hope at that moment,” he says. “No matter how old they are, they need a home base and to be part of something.”
Joe knows first hand the pain of not having a home, he was in foster care at birth and aged out at the age of 21. His birth mother was only fifteen years old.
He struggled in his youth, and even though foster kids have a harder time staying in school and excelling in sports and activities – Joe Toles received a full sports scholarship to Alabama’s Auburn University.
The Next Leap Forward
Joe Toles is a man who fully understands what the words family and friend stand for. Using his own life as an example, he has reached deep inside of the human spirit to share his experiences and help those kids who can easily fall through the cracks.
He is a Brink Thinker who leads by example, by creating The Joseph Toles Foundation. The foundation provides the opportunity for children in foster care to have a camping experience where they are safe, respected and loved. The kids will learn new skills, and leave with a profoundly strengthened spirit.
Adopting a child is potentially the biggest decision one can make in their lifetime. While the reasons to adopt may be very personal, the biggest reason is that they are prepared and willing to accept responsibility for this life, and they want to enhance their own life.
The gratification of giving HOPE and LOVE to another human being has got to be the biggest gift of all.
