We’ve all been there at one time or another – either as the recipient or sender of an unintended text. The question is – how do you react to the text in question? Do you keep your cool or do you let it rock your boat? Or might you do what brothers Deorick and Dennis Williams did, and jump in the car and drive forty miles to the hospital to celebrate the new birth of these perfect strangers? And just to add more excitement to the surprise visit – how about you stop along the way to pick up some gifts for the new baby? Sound insane?
It started out like any other normal weekend – that is until a group text appeared on Dennis Williams’ phone. Lindsey and Mark Knox has given birth to a healthy baby boy, Carson Knox – stated the text. The couple was so busy texting friends and family about the new arrival – so much that they had no idea they had sent a text to the wrong phone. Further they also didn’t see the return texts from the brothers indicating that they hadn’t a clue as to who they were!
But that didn’t stop brothers Deorick and Dennis to honor the request and drive from their home in Tallahassee, Florida to the Georgia hospital bearing gifts and a new friendship!
“What a blessing these two guys were to our family,” the Knoxes posted to Facebook. “They were so sweet and kind to do this! You 2 are great guys and thank you for giving to someone you didn’t know!”
The Next Leap Forward
You don’t need a rogue text to enlighten and surprise someone today! Change your routine. Do the unexpected. Take a chance. Jump in your car and drive forty miles to surprise complete strangers, bearing gifts none-the-less.
All of this reminds me of an old story I once heard where three wise men traveled hundreds of miles, bearing gifts, all to visit some strange baby in a low-budget manger scene. You just never know how your next move could change your life or the world for that matter!
